about

"frozen radios" became the pivotal second album in ['ramp]'s career -- will they make it or will they break it? apparently, ['ramp] did quite well with the successor to the critically acclaimed debut "nodular".

"frozen radios" not only saw the introduction of the ['ramp] script-logo but also the first truly independent release by ['ramp] as ties with manikin had been cut after the release of "nodular".

"frozen radios" contained mainly new material recorded between july 1998 and april 1999, staying true to ['ramp]'s formula of improvising and recording live to two-track stereo. the final track, "dauerschlaf", had been left over from ramp's first session in april 1996, though, and didn't make it onto "nodular" (mario thought it was "too ambient"). that's why it was included with this release.

"frozen radios" made its debut at the 7th alfa centauri festival in march 2000, one year after ['ramp]'s performance there in april 1999.

527 copies were ultimately pressed. the cd sold out at around the same time the final copies of "nodular" were changing hands in around 2004/05. occasionally, they seem to fetch outrageous prices on the internet, that's why it seemed to be about time for a digital download album.

the release of "frozen radios" as a digital download is to celebrate ['ramp]'s 21st anniversary as well.
